The Question
We are building technologies more capable than ever before. Yet our societies struggle with trust, division, and a loss of meaning.
I believe the real challenge is not intelligence. It is judgement.
And judgement is formed in relationships, shaped by culture, and tested in everyday decisions.
This record is how I think out loud about that challenge.

Growing up between cultures
One's own perspective emerges.
Rhineland roots, Romanian roots. Grandparents who lived the line between East and West. Three sons, and two parents (humanist and analyst, social and efficient), different in ways that completed each other, not competed. A childhood shaped in part by Brittany's wild coast. I grew up standing between things. It never felt like something to resolve.

Learning to build
Curiosity becomes creation.
My father kept bringing new machines home, years before most people had touched one. I was still a child when I wrote my first lines of code, not because anyone asked, but because I needed to know what was happening inside the box. That need never really changed shape. It just grew heavier, until it started asking for more than curiosity: responsibility for what gets built.

Working inside large organisations
Systems meet people.
Years in management consulting. Years at a software company, helping intelligent systems take hold. The people I worked alongside weren't naive about it. The best of them held one belief deliberately: technology as a force for human possibility, not a replacement for human judgment. I believed it too. Responsibility didn't arrive later, against that belief. It grew straight out of it.

Becoming a husband and father
Responsibility becomes personal.
The birth of my first child. That's the easy answer. The harder truth is the moment I realized I couldn't protect them from everything, couldn't make the world safe just by wanting to. There's no recipe for that. We're human, living inside something too complex for certainty. You won't always get it right, even when hindsight says you should have. What's left is showing up with your best, every time, and navigating by a compass that stays clear even when the path doesn't.

Artificial intelligence changed the questions
The questions grow bigger than the answers.
Deep in this world professionally, long before it reached our kitchen table. What changed the questions wasn't a project or a paper. It was watching my own children grow up inside it, at school, in ordinary life, in a world where the same technology now touches everything from cars to hospitals to how governments decide. Expertise gave me answers for the systems I built. It gave me none for what it means to raise children inside all the others.

The Human Record
Why any of this gets written down.
None of this resolves into an answer. That's the point of writing it down, not to arrive somewhere final, but to leave a trail honest enough that my children, or anyone asking the same questions, can see the thinking and not just the conclusions. A record outlives the person who kept it. What matters is whether it was kept honestly.
