Purpose of this website

The Human Record is a personal author website, not a company presence. Here I publish essays, notes and projects on responsibility, technology and human judgement, my own view alone.

Copyright

All texts and, unless otherwise noted, all content on this website are protected by copyright.

Any use beyond the limits set by law requires my prior consent.

Privacy

I process as little personal data as possible on this website. What is technically necessary to run it, I describe here in full.

Controller

This responsibility is mine alone, Philipp von Bentivegni. Contact details and address can be found above in the Imprint.

Hosting and server logs

This website runs on my own server (VPS) at IONOS SE, Elgendorfer Str. 57, 56410 Montabaur, Germany. Visiting this site automatically creates connection data: IP address, date and time of the request, browser type and version, and the page accessed.

This is purely technical, needed to deliver the page to you. I do not combine this data with any other data source. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR, legitimate interest in a functioning website.

Umami Analytics

I want a rough sense of which questions get read, not who reads them. For that I use Umami, a privacy-friendly, self-hosted analytics tool running on my own server.

Umami sets no cookies and stores no IP addresses. I only see aggregated numbers: how many visits a page had, roughly from where, on what kind of device. Never anything that leads back to you personally. Because no cookie is set and nothing is read from your device, no consent under the ePrivacy rules is required for this.

The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR, legitimate interest in understanding what gets read, without tracking individual people.

Contact by email

If you write to me by email, I store the information from your message (including any contact details you provide) to handle the request and for possible follow-up. I do not pass this data on without your consent.

The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR (pre-contractual measures or performance of a contract) or Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (legitimate interest in responding to inquiries).

External links

This website links to external services, such as LinkedIn. Following such a link takes you away from this site, and the respective provider's privacy practice applies, not mine. Please read their policies if that matters to you.

Your rights

You have the right to obtain information about the data I hold about you, to have it corrected, deleted, or its processing restricted, to data portability, and to object to processing. If you have given consent, you may withdraw it at any time with future effect.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the data protection supervisory authority responsible for me. The simplest way to reach me about any of this is by email.
